If you’re using affiliate marketing to make money from your content, you can increase your earnings by joining contests and challenges that merchants create for publishers. Here’s how it works and everything you need to know.
I’ll start by saying that I am no expert when it comes to joining affiliate contests and challenges, although it’s pretty easy and straightforward. But a few days ago I won a $200 affiliate contest, and some of the clients asked me how I did and if they could do the same – as many of them already using affiliate marketing – so I thought writing a quick guide may help some of you get started.
What are affiliate contests?
Put simply, affiliate contests are contests merchants create for publishers who want to take part and earn more money by promoting affiliate products or services. Based on the contest, you may have to promote a specific product, service, or even a new plan or offer the company now offers to its clients.
The rules may differ though, as some merchants may select the winner based on the best content the contesters created, including reviews, video reviews, and sometimes even podcast episodes. The content that you’ll need to create may differ, as some merchants may choose a contest for the best review article of the month, the best video of the month, and so on.
The team behind will then choose the winner based on the best content. In that case, many affiliates join the affiliate contest, create the best content they can, and submit it for review. When the contest is over, the team behind will announce the winners.
What are affiliate challenges?
Affiliate challenges are a bit different from contests because affiliates would have to focus on specific requirements, such as making as many sales as they can within a time diagram. For example, there are companies that every month give an amount of money to the affiliates who made the most sales in the last 30 days, which is perfect if you make lots of sales from a specific program.
I always found affiliate challenges more difficult than contests, and that’s because while I trust my skills as a content creator to write a high-quality and SEO-optimized review, there are also so many affiliates/companies that get millions of monthly visitors and they can easily outsell all other affiliates that have joined the challenge.
How to find and join affiliate contests and challenges?
Unfortunately, not every merchant or company decides to create their own affiliate contests or challenges, but there are a few ways you can find some. Apart from doing a quick search, I will absolutely advise you to check for any contests or challenges through the affiliate networks and programs that you’re already using.
For example, Impact.com is one of those affiliate networks that will notify you if there are any new contests or challenges created by the programs that you have already joined, which is a great way to keep track of multiple merchants from a single place.
Rank Math SEO – which is a WordPress plugin – also has a monthly contest in which they give $200 to four winners every single month. Yes, that’s right, every month! It’s pretty easy to promote such tools because they’re modern, robust, and crucial when it comes to website owners to optimize their websites for search engines.
Every month, we’ll announce a winner for the best article and a winner for the best video. The best articles will be rewarded $400 from us (2 winners get $200 each), and the best-selected videos will also be rewarded $400 (2 winners get $200 each)

Then there’s HubSpot, which has an affiliate challenge that rewards the 3 top sellers of the month with $1,000, $500, and $250 respectively. You can find more about their challenge here. HubSpot’s affiliate program is available through the Impact network, so that’s great if you’re already using it to partner with other merchants.
Conclusion
While there aren’t many merchants and affiliate programs that provide contests or challenges to their publishers, you can start by doing quick research through search engines and looking at the official websites of the products or services that you want to promote, as some of them may provide their own from their sites.
A good and trustworthy affiliate network should also provide some kind of notifications or pages from which you can check for any new contests and/or challenges, and easily take part. If you can’t find any contests or challenges from a specific merchant, try to contact them and ask them if they do those kinds of affiliate competitions. If they do, make sure you add those days to your calendar, and if not, you did your part.
