In this article...

Looking to sell your online courses and you want to build your own website or marketplace platform? Here are the 10 best free and premium online course themes for WordPress which give you all the features and options to create something unique and professional.

If you want to increase the sales of your online courses, one of the most crucial steps is to make sure that you’re providing an excellent user experience for each visitor that comes to your website. Thankfully, there are hundreds of beautiful free and premium WordPress themes that you can use to achieve that.

Before we proceed, it’s important to note that I’ve used all of the following themes. I’ve chosen some of them for my personal projects, while I’ve used others thanks to some clients who brought them.

I’ve also tried a few more that are currently on sale on ThemeForest, but let me tell you, they’re not as good as their high price, they lack proper support, and they haven’t updated for ages, so I’m not going to recommending those (even if they are still working with the latest versions of WordPress).

1. Tutor Starter

Tutor Starter by Themeum - Free WordPress Theme for Online Courses

Tutor Starter is a free WordPress theme for online courses and marketplaces, created by the same team that brought us the Tutor LMS, one of the most popular learning management systems in the world. As you’ve probably already guessed, the theme works best with their own LMS plugin and it’s not designed for alternatives.

The theme is minimal, solid, and modern, and it comes with four different demos that you can use, including the “Marketplace”, “University”, “Instructor, and “Simple Course”. The best feature here is that you can combine all four demos together and bring something unique and yours to life.

You can enable or disable the default section in your online courses, such as the description, reviews, questions asked by the students, and even the exclusive updates for each one of your courses – a nice way for your users to see that you keep them fresh.

2. Course

Course by Automattic

Course is another free WordPress theme that you can use to sell your online courses, but unlike the first one, it’s made by Automattic, the company behind WordPress itself. Although not all their plugins are of the same quality, many of them have bugs, errors, and incompatibilities, but their themes are pretty much safe to use.

This theme has been designed to work best with the Sensei LMS, Automattic’s own learning management system, it comes with a selection of default style variations that include multiple font and color combinations, and it even has two default patterns that you can use (although you can always create your own). You can also use the Course theme with third-party LMS plugins.

This theme works with blocks, which means it takes advantage of WordPress’s latest Gutenberg versions, and patterns here will be pretty much the goal for every owner, as they are useful and can be placed in different online courses and pages with a few clicks. The theme itself doesn’t have many features and options, but it’s a good starting point if you aren’t looking for anything too fancy or complex.

3. Edubin – Education WordPress Theme

Edubin - Education WordPress Theme

Edubin is a premium WordPress theme with over 30 stylish demos with different homepages, it uses the Elementor Builder (Elementor Pro is also included), and it’s compatible with all the popular LMS plugins, including Tutor LMS, LearnPress, LearnDash, Sensei, MasterStudy, and LifterLMS, which means you can choose whatever you like the most.

The theme is currently priced at $39.00 on ThemeForest with 6 months of support by PirxelCurve, the team that created Edubin, and lifetime updates. It has over 3,000 sales already and a great rating by its clients. Last, but not least, it has an online documentation that you can check out before purchasing or if you’re after for specific adjustments and you need help.

4. Efor – Coaching & Online Courses WordPress Theme

Efor - Coaching & Online Courses WordPress Theme

The Efor theme is a beautiful choice for coaches who want to promote their work and offer their online courses through a modern and slick interface. It is compatible with both LearnPress LMS and Tutor LMS plugins, and all of its pages are designed using the Elementor Builder plugin. Moreover, users have over 70+ pre-made elements that can be imported with 1-click.

The theme fully supports both lessons and quizzes, it lets you create your own pop-up windows to promote specific courses or to gain more subscribers to your newsletter and gives you access to 800+ Google Fonts that you can use to stylize your text. Efor is also responsive and works smoothly on every device, it’s Retina-display ready, and supports all basic touch gestures on sliders and other components.

Efor currently provides 13 different and unique demos that you can easily import, all of them designed for specific purposes. The theme is currently priced at $99.00 on ThemeForest with lifetime updates and 6 months of support included.

5. DotLife | Coaching Online Courses WordPress

DotLife Theme for Online Courses

DotLife is another beautiful and premium WordPress theme that has been designed especially for life coaches, speakers, mentors, instructors, teachers, consultants, and tutors who want to sell their online courses, promote their work, and have a beautiful blog. It uses the Elementor Builder and has over 100 pre-designed pages and over 100 widgets that can be imported with 1-click.

It’s a well-designed and very responsive theme great for selling your online courses, with full support for Tutor LMS and quizzes integration. It’s multilingual compatible, it has a popup builder, options for your mailing list, and support for online payments. You can combine any of its demos to create something of your own, or simply import and customize the demo that you’d like the most.

With DotLife you’ll also be getting the Elementor Pro version (without the license key for automatic updates), and it works great with WooCommerce, Events Calendar, WPML, and Gravity Forms plugins. The theme is currently priced at $51.00 on ThemeForest as an offer, down from the original price of $64.00.

6. Skillate

Skillate by Themeum - WordPress Theme for Online Courses

If you’re looking for a modern, “funky” kind of theme, Skillate may be the best fit for your needs. Created by Themeum, the company behind Tutor LMS, the whole theme is powered by their own learning management system platform and, as you can see, it’s a great-looking theme (that it simply needs a few adjustments to become even better).

At first glance, it looks like it’s a portfolio combined with a shop, yet they’re all online courses that visitors can purchase or participate in for free. As with all the company’s themes, you can have multiple instructors, choose what fee you’ll be keeping, or keep things simple and upload only your own.

Skillate is a subscription-based theme, currently priced at $79.00 for 1 year of updates and technical support through email. The also comes with a “Free Installation Service” package that you can use if you don’t know how to set up the theme. Skillate also uses Qubely, Themeum’s plugin that provides advanced blocks for the Gutenberg editor, which you’ll be using to stylize your pages.

7. Eikra – Education WordPress Theme

Eikra - Education WordPress Theme

Eikra is not the most beautiful and modern theme for online courses in this list, but it works great, it’s smooth, and it’s stable enough to build a whole marketplace or a professional website for your school, college, university, or even training center. It’s a complete online education LMS theme which uses LearnPress as its main system, and Elementor Builder for customizing, designing, and managing your pages.

As one of the most popular online course themes for WordPress on ThemeForest, it fully supports curriculums, courses, lessons, quizzes, and different payment methods, and it has 14 single and multi-plage homepages that you can use. Users also have the option to import any of the available demos with 1-click and choose between 3 instructor layouts, 3 testimonial layouts, 3 course layouts, 2 event layouts, and finally 3 research layouts.

It’s a responsive and mobile-friendly theme, it has been optimized for search engines, and it can be customized with unlimited color combinations. The admin panel works with Redux, which I can’t say I preferred that much, but it does indeed provide a stable experience, which is what most people looking for in such a theme.

8. EduMall – Professional LMS Education Center WordPress Theme

EduMall - Professional LMS Education Center WordPress Theme

EduMall is by far one of the most beautiful LMS and education WordPress themes that can be found on ThemeForest. It currently has 13 different demos that you can combine with ease, and it uses the Elementor Builder (Pro version included) for designing and customizing the pages.

It is translation-ready (with WPML but works with Polylang too), supports the BodyPress plugin, provides powerful analytics, and costs $69.00 for lifetime updates with 6 months of technical support. The theme itself has full integration with the Tutor LMS Pro plugin and uses its course builder and advanced quiz creator to make your online courses even greater.

The theme also provides support for payments either with Bank Transfer or using PayPal, zoom integration, powerful reports, course prerequisites, and email notifications. Thanks to its content security feature you can rest knowing that your content is well-protected, you’ll get a beautiful and well-organized dashboard for your students and one for your instructors, and there are tons of other features and options to discover.

9. scholarship

Scholarship WordPress Education Theme

Scholarship is a freemium WordPress education theme, which means that while it has a free version that you can use, you would have to upgrade to the premium version if you want to take advantage of all of its features and functionalities.

The free version comes with three different demos that you can easily import and start adjusting, while the premium users will have three more demos to choose from – which are more advanced. The theme has been designed to work great with Tutor LMS and it fully supports the Elementor Builder if you want to create more pages and adjust them accordingly.

The Pro version is currently priced at $59.99, but keep in mind that it’s subscription-based, which means that you’ll receive updates for only 1 year, and then you’ll have to purchase the theme again if you want to receive more updates and support.

10. Edumax

Edumax by Themeum for Online Courses and Education

Edumax is a well-designed WordPress theme designed specifically for educators, schools, coaching centers, and even academic institutes who are looking for something easy to use, modern, and ideal for a smooth and fast experience.

The theme has been created by Themeum, the same team behind Tutor LMS, which means that it’s well integrated with their learning management system to work at its fullest. Edumax comes with two different homepages, one focused on the offered online courses to draw learners’ attention, and one that showcases the features that help educators create courses on the site, perfect for those seeking to create a community of instructors.

For those interested, Edumax is currently priced at $79.00 for 1 year of updates and priority email support, with 1 free installation service package. There are two more plans for freelancers and agencies who want to use the theme on multiple websites and need more licenses. Last but not least, it uses Qubely’s advanced blocks for Gutenberg to customize, manage, and create your pages.

There are many other themes that you can use to sell your online courses, as those listed in the list above are just a small example of what’s available. It’s important to always check the theme’s description and carefully read about its features, options, integrations, and support with third-party plugins, immediately followed by reading the latest reviews.

The options recommended in this article are some of the great examples that you can get access to, including SEO-optimized and clean code, many customization options, 1-click import for demos, homepages, and other elements, payment systems, and so much more.
